Prison time in drug case on tribal lands

MADISON (WKOW) -- Three people will spend at least the next few years in prison after convictions for distributing crack cocaine on tribal lands.

A federal judge sentenced Diana Martin, 44, of Webster to nine years, Margrette Cobb, 28, of Cumberland, to 13 years and four months, and Andrew Sonnenberg, 26, of Red Lake, Minnesota to 17 years and six months.

Eight others had been sentenced in the multi-agency investigation, which spanned a period of January 2001 to September 2008, on St. Croix Chippewa tribal lands.

Martin's attorney didn't immediately return a message. Cobb's attorney declined comment.

Sonnenberg's attorney, Dennis Joseph Ryan, says he thinks his client's sentence was harsh but he couldn't dispute the government's case.
