Racine's former mayor gets trial date for child pornography charges
RACINE (WKOW) -- A trial date has been set for the former Racine mayor charged with enticing a child over the internet and possessing child porn.
A county judge set the date for February. Former Racine Mayor Gary Becker was caught in an Internet sex sting back in January.
Becker's jury trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 1.
Judge Stephen Simanek on Tuesday also ordered Becker to pay more than $900 for the GPS monitoring unit he must wear while out on bond.
The 52-year-old Becker is accused of trying to arrange a sexual tryst with someone he thought was a teenage girl.
Becker resigned as mayor on Jan. 20, five days after he was charged with multiple felonies. The criminal complaint says he was arrested in a sting operation after chatting online with a state agent posing as a 14-year-old girl.
He was also charged with possessing child pornography and misconduct in office.
