SPARTA (WKOW) -- Monroe County health officials have confirmed that young girl has died of the H1N1 influenza virus.
The family of 1-year-old Aberianna Dunnum of Cashton confirmed the girl died Sunday. She would have been two in January. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday morning in Galesville.
The county would not release any more details about what lead to her death. But health officials emphasize swine flu can be especially dangerous for young children, along with anyone with a compromised immune system or a chronic illness.
The girl's death is the ninth in Wisconsin this year. Swine flu cases have been reported in 52 of the state's 72 counties. Twenty-six people have been hospitalized since September 1.
