Fake $100 used at Madison gas station

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police are searching for a man who they say defrauded a downtown gas station by using a fake $100 bill.

The crime happened Sunday around 2:30 p.m. at the Kelly Williamson Mobil on the 600 block of West Washington Ave.

Police say the man came in to purchase a few items and passed a counterfeit bill during his transaction.

The clerk took the $100 and gave him change, but didn't realize until a short time later it was bogus.

The suspect is described as a black man, 5'4", 160 lbs., wearing a tan jacket, dark pants, a dark red button-down shirt and a brown hat with a brim around the entire head.
