Food pantry sees record demand

MADISON (WKOW)--Dane County's largest food pantry is seeing more people in need than ever before.

Officials with Saint Vincent de Paul say nearly 23,000 households received food through the pantry in the past year.

That is about a 9% increase over the previous year and an annual record for the pantry.

Officials say they have been recently serving as many as 500 families a week.

A new $4 million facility on Fish Hatchery Road on Madison's southwest side is helping make this possible, but the pantry still needs help to pay for it.
