MADISON (WKOW) -- Wake Up Wisconsin anchors Roland Beres and Barbara Vaughan are excited about a new discovery that could help with the effects of sleep deprivation.
Scientists working out of the University of Pennsylvania have discovered an enzyme called PDE4 that blocks the neural pathways that allow us to remember things. The enzyme is more common in people who are sleep deprived.
When mice are treated with drugs that inhibited PDE4, the remembered a fear stimulus no matter how tired they were when learning it.
Researchers hope to use this discovery to help the memory of people suffering from sleep disorders.
