MADISON (WKOW) -- The Restor-It Leather and Vinyl Repair Kit promises to fix rips, tears, and holes in leather, especially car seats.
27 News Call for Action Reporter Dan Cassuto tested the product at Schmidt's junkyard in Waunakee.
The kit comes with a handful of paints, a mixing container, and leather textures to apply the paint to the leather.
There are thousands of color combinations, but only serve colors of paint. Finding and matching the right color can be a major challenge.
It's very difficult to get the color right because wet paint looks different than dry paint. We tried to match the correct color for some blue and tan leather interiors, and got lucky once, but failed miserably twice.
The kit does a fairly good job of fixing tears and holes. It's not perfect, but if the color is right, it certainly looks better than before. It dries nicely and seals the rip together. However, if the color doesn't match, your repair can look miserable.
We give the Restor-It Leather and Vinyl Repair kit 2 stars out of 5 because the color matching is just so difficult.
Dan Cassuto will test the Egg Genie on Tuesday, November 3rd on 27 News at 10:00.
Email Dan if you have ideas for future product tests.
