Wis. to expand target group for H1N1 vaccine

MADISON (WKOW) -- More people in Wisconsin will be able to get the H1N1 vaccine soon, the state health department said Thursday.

Beginning Nov. 19, the vaccine target group will expand to include all people ages 19-64 who have underlying health conditions that put them at high risk for flu-like complications.

Previously, the department limited the vaccine only to pregnant women, people who live with or care for infants age six months or younger, health care personnel who have direct contact with patients, children ages six months to four years, and people ages five to 18 years who have pre-existing health conditions.

The department says it will work to move into the expanded group sooner, if possible, but it will depend on whether it has an adequate supply of the vaccine.
