DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Office is reminding residents to make sure their homes are secure when leaving, after a string of residential burglaries.
Many of these crimes took place in the afternoon or evening when the victim was at an event publicized in a newspaper.
Over the past month, the Sheriff's Department has been called to five similar incidents across the county. On four of those occasions, the victims were attending a funeral and returned to find their home burglarized.
All of the break-ins happened between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and items valued at high dollar amounts were taken.
The most recent case happened on Saturday, November 14 in the Town of Montrose. The residents arrived home after an anniversary party to find their patio door smashed in and many of their valuables gone.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents to secure their homes when leaving, and encourages neighbors to look out for each other and report any suspicious activity they witness to authorities immediately. Anyone having information on the burglaries being investigated can call the Dane County Tip Line at (608) 284-6900.
