WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- According to this year's latest round of safety tests, Ford, Subaru and Volkswagen have some of the safest vehicles on the road.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released its top safety picks for 2010. Ford and its Volvo unit have six vehicles on the list, including the Ford Taurus and Volvo S80. Subaru had five vehicles, as did Volkswagen and its Audi unit. Chrysler received four awards. Honda and General Motors got two each
One notable surprise is that Toyota was shut out. Last year it had 11 vehicles on the top safety list. All Mazda and Mitsubishi models were also left off.
The number of awards this year is down because of tougher roof safety requirements.
Here’s a look at all 27 vehicles on the list:
Chevrolet Malibu built after October 2009
Chrysler Sebring 4-door with optional electronic stability control
Dodge Avenger with optional electronic stability control
Mercedes C class
Volkswagen Jetta sedan
Volkswagen Passat sedan
Honda Civic 4-door models (except Si) with optional electronic stability control
Subaru Impreza except WRX
Volkswagen Golf 4-door
Jeep Patriot with optional side torso airbags
