Hunter arrested for allegedly shooting into home

DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Dane County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man for allegedly shooting into a home while hunting.

The incident happened at a home on Highway 19 in the Town of Burke, Tuesday afternoon around 1:40 p.m.

A couple and their adult son were home at the time when they heard what they described as an explosion in the kitchen. When they went to check it out, they found a hole in the wall and a shotgun slug lying on the floor.

The homeowner noticed two hunters in a field near his home and spoke with them.

It turns out one of the hunters, 46-year-old Michael A. Berkholtz, said he shot at a deer and lost his footing.

Deputies discovered Berkholtz was under the influence of alcohol and he was taken to a local hospital to have his blood drawn.

He was later arrested for Reckless Endangerment.
