MADISON (WKOW) -- The holiday shopping season got in full swing in downtown Madison on Saturday.
Businesses on State Street and around the Capitol Square took part in the annual Downtown Open House.
Shoppers tried free samples at many restaurants and some went store to store by trolley looking for good deals on clothes, shoes and many other items.
"The trolley helps. Everyone is going to the malls, also getting the focus on downtown is helping out quite a lot," said Allie Huber, Assistant Manager at Jack's Shoes.
"We're spent more than we can handle. Time to go home and take a nap!" said shopper Katherine Ravenstine.
Huber says they've seen more foot traffic Saturday than last year.
The one-day event is put on by Madison's Central Business Improvement District.
