UPDATE (WKOW) -- DeForest Police released details of the incident that sparked Saturday night's high speed vehicle pursuit, which ultimately ended in a foot chase on Madison's east side.
According to a police news release, a DeForest Police officer attempted to stop a Ford Taurus on East Holum Street around 8:42 p.m. for speeding and following too close. The driver, Greg Timler, 28, drove off at a high rate of speed and drove south on Highway 51.
A pursuit then began west along Vinburn Road, through a residential area on Meadowood Circle in the Town of Windsor, and then on Lake Road, where two front tires were punctured with road spikes.
Timler still managed to drive his car between speeds of 30 and 50 miles per hour, eventually driving onto Interstate 90/94/39 and exiting again south onto Highway 51/Stoughton Road into Madison.
MPD officers were able to use another set of road spikes again to puncture the right rear tire. The vehicle pursuit ended on the 600 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. Timler then left his car and began a foot chase before being arrested.
He was taken to Meriter Hospital for medical clearance and a blood draw, and then booked into the Dane County Jail.
According to DeForest Police, Timler faces tentative charges of felony fleeing an officer, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, driving 100 mph into a 35 mph zone, following an automobile too close. Other possible charges are pending.
The news release indicates that Timler admitted to using heroin and cocaine prior to the pursuit.
