YORK, Penn. (WKOW) -- A rare gold coin worth more than $1,000 was dropped in a Salvation Army kettle in south-central Pennsylvania.
York Salvation Army Major Lurlene Mudge say a South African Krugerrand was wrapped in a $1 bill and discovered while counting collections.
The coin was place in kettle outside a Kmart in Springettsbury Township on Friday.
Major Mudge says this is the first time in two years since the York Salvation Army received a gold coin as a donation. She is calling the coin a moral booster for people ringing bells this year.
