Man accused of punching Schubring to stand trial

MADISON (WKOW) -- The man police say critically injured a former UW Basketball player with a sucker punch has been ordered to stand trial.

Twenty-four-year-old Sean Longabaugh of Lake Villa, Ill., is facing a felony charge of aggravated battery. He's accused of punching Darin Schubring in the head on Halloween at the Main Depot.

A witness testified in court Tuesday that Longabaugh blind sided Schubring with a punch to the left temple. The witness also said Longabaugh punched him again as he lie motionless on the ground.

Longabaugh did not testify at the hearing. His attorneys called no witnesses.

The complaint says that as of Nov. 3, the 42-year-old Schubring couldn't breathe on his own and was on a ventilator. On Nov. 17, he was in good condition at UW Hospital. No further information was available Tuesday.

Schubring is a native of Baraboo. He played basketball at UW-Madison from 1986 to 1989.
