MADISON (WKOW) -- Some 3,000 families and more than 7,300 kids will have presents to open this holiday season. It's all thanks to public donations made to Toys For Tots.
"I want to thank those people from the bottom of my heart," says Nissa Uriostegui of Madison.
Nissa has three boys and one girl, ages two to seven. Because of Toys For Tots, each will have five presents to open this year.
They're all donations, collected at more than 500 locations around Dane County.
"This means the world to me," adds Uriostegui. "There's nothing that means more to me than to be able to give my kids a Christmas, because growing up I knew it was hard not being able to have a lot, and this gives me the opportunity to give them everything they wouldn't have otherwise."
Local Marines, who coordinate the drive, say donations started coming in slow this year, but really picked up toward the end.
This year's total is actually about 3,000 more than last year.
The toy distribution continues through Friday at Alliant Energy Center's Exhibition Hall. However, you did have to preregister to take part in the program.
If you'd like to still help out, you can drop off a new toy at the Exhibition Hall or you can volunteer your time.
WKOW 27 is a proud sponsor of Toys For Tots.
