Music sales up 2.1 percent in '09; Swift has year's top album
NEW YORK (WKOW) -- Music sales were up overall more than 2 percent in 2009, despite a major decline of album sales, down 12.7 percent.
Neilsen SoundScan tracks the nation's album sales. The top album of the year? Taylor Swift's "Fearless," which was released in late 2008 and sold 3.2 million copies in 2009.
British talent show contestant and internet sensation Susan Boyle put up a strong challenge; her album, "I Dreamed a Dream" sold 3.1 million copies after its release in late November.
Other notables: Michael Jackson's "Number Ones" sold 2.3 million copies, followed by Lady Gaga's "The Fame" with 2.2 million copies sold and "My Christmas" by Andrea Bocelli, which came in No. 5 with 2.2 million copies.
