Jefferson County man pleads not guilty to abusing toddler
JEFFERSON (WKOW) -- A Fort Atkinson man has pleaded not guilty to physically abusing his 3 month-old son.
According to the Daily Jefferson County Union, Matthew J. Hyke, 21, pleaded not guilty on Thursday to three child abuse charges, which carry a maximum prison sentence of 30 years.
A criminal complaint reveals that Hyke told investigators he was feeding his son when the boy went limp. Hyke then took the baby to a hospital saying the child had stopped breathing. Tests revealed the baby had brain hemorrhaging as well as older rib and arm fractures.
Hyke later admitted to raising the boy above his head and throwing him down on the bed.
