PHILADELPHIA (WKOW) -- Soul singer Teddy Pendergrass has died at the age of 59.
The singer's son says his father died Wednesday at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Philadelphia after a "difficult recovery" from colon cancer surgery eight months ago.
Pendergrass was injured in a car accident in 1982 but despite suffering a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed form the waist down, he returned to the recording studio less than a year later and produced "Love Language."
In a statement, Pendergrass' son thanked his father's fans and says his father will love on through his songs.
