Thousands headed to World Championship Snowmobile Derby
EAGLE RIVER (WKOW) -- Thousands of visitors are flocking to the Wisconsin northwoods to watch or participate in the annual World Championship Snowmobile Derby.
Derby Spokesman Greg Cook says this event pumps millions of dollars a year in the Eagle River Community. A snowmobile retail store is right across from the track and with good weather expected for the race, Cook says it could mean even more business. "I think everyone up here depends on derby week for business. Good snow means a lot. Good weather means a lot. It'll be nice this year because we're not looking at 20-below weather. Hopefully that brings a few more people out that usually don't come out."
Area businesses also say rental sales go up and hotels are usually full, boosting the economy.
