Haiti earthquake could delay adoption for Green Bay family
GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- A Wisconsin family is more anxious than ever to bring their adoptive daughter home from Haiti.
Kat and Mike Heissner of Green Bay have been going through the adoption process since they met Mary Lynn in Haiti three years ago, and fell in love with her.
The ten year old girl was supposed to finally join their family within the next few weeks, but the earthquake may have destroyed paperwork, causing yet another setback.
After the quake, the Heissner's had to wait 3 grueling days before getting word that Mary Lynn is OK.
"She said "I am safe" and I said "Oh, Mary Lynn, I love you." Kat says, of the first time she talked to Mary Lynn after the earthquake. "She said, "Mama, I love you, too, but I'm hungry. Please come get me Mama, please!"
The Heissner's are reaching out to lawmakers and anyone who may be able to clear the red tape so they can bring Mary Lynn home.
