Red Cross collects $134M in donations; distribution detailed
NEW YORK (WKOW) -- The American Red Cross is releasing new information on the distribution of relief efforts in Haiti.
As of Wednesday, donations totaled $137 million, including more than $25 million received in the Red Cross text campaign.
A spokesman says of the $34 million already committed to aid, half is going to food and water for survivors, including around 3 million packaged meals.
Thirty percent was spent on supplies like blankets, tents and first aid care. Another 20 percent went to logistical support, like supply delivery, warehouse space, gas, transportation costs and relief personnel deployment.
