DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (WKOW) -- The world's tallest building closed Tuesday for unknown reasons.
Engineers say it was a problem with an elevator over the weekend that left 15 people trapped inside for 45 minutes, until rescuers were able to pry open the doors.
More than 120 floors above ground, visitors on the observation deck say they heard a loud boom and saw dust that looked like smoke slipping through the elevator doors.
Rescuers had to drop a ladder into the shaft so the people inside could crawl out.
About 60 more people were stranded on the observation deck, and they began to panic.
The Burj Dubai is a half-mile-high building that opened a month ago.
