Jury selection begins in football coach murder trial
SHELL ROCK, Iowa (WKOW) -- Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of a man accused of shooting an Iowa high school football coach last summer.
A judge on Wednesday selected 36 potential jurors and will eventually choose 12 jurors and four alternates to hear the case against 24-year-old Mark Becker. Becker is charged with murdering Aplington-Parkersburg High School coach Ed Thomas last June. The attorney representing Becker plans to use a defense of insanity or diminished responsibility.
Ed Thomas was the NFL High School Coach of the Year in 2005. Four of his players are now in the NFL including Green Bay Packers Linebacker Aaron Kampmann.
