Helpline for Post 9/11 GI Bill now open 5 days a week
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WKOW) -- Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan can get their questions answered about the new Post-9/11 GI Bill over the phone five days a week starting Thursday.
Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki says that GI Bill helpline employees have been working to process a backlog in education claims since December. Shinseki says since those claims are being processed more efficiently, more workers are being moved to the helpline.
The toll-free helpline at 1-888-GI-BILL-1 or 1-888-442-4551 will be staffed Monday through Friday.
The new GI Bill was designed to be the most comprehensive benefit for veterans since World War II.
