MADISON (WKOW) -- The cause of a fire that damaged a garage and its contents is under investigation.
It happened around 7:20 Thursday night on the 5400 block of Greening Lane.
The Madison Fire Department says the homeowner was watching TV when he heard a noise in his garage. When he opened the door and saw smoke and flames, he quickly shut the door, escaped from the house and called for help.
Fire officials estimate the damage at $25,000. The house smelled like smoke after the fire was out, but it was not damaged. Officials say the homeowner's act of closing the door prevented extensive smoke and fire damage in the house.
No one was injured in the fire.
