'Stand and Deliver' cast raising funds for ill teacher
LOS ANGELES (WKOW) -- Cast members of the 1988 movie "Stand and Deliver" are hoping to lend a hand to the film's real-life subject, who is battling cancer and running out of funds to pay for medical treatment.
The movie dramatized the story of Jamie Escalante and his work to turn a group of students at an inner city L.A. high school into calculus champs.
Now, Escalante, 79, is battling cancer and his family has run out of money to pay for his treatments.
Actress Vanessa Marquez, who appeared in the film, says so far the cast has raised $5,000 but still aims to raise an additional $25,000.
