House passes bill giving tax cuts to hire unemployed
WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- The House passed one of several job creation bills promised by democrats.
The bill awards tax breaks to companies that hire unemployed workers. Businesses that hire unemployed would not have to pay the 6.2 percent Social Security payroll tax. The bill also extends federal highway programs through the end of the year.
The Senate passed a bill similar last week, but with minor changes the bill will go back to them for a vote again.
