S. Korean couple plays online games while child starves to death
SEOUL, South Korea (WKOW) -- A South Korean couple were arrested this week after police there say the couple devoted so much time to playing an online game about raising a virtual child that their real child starved to death.
News reports out of South Korea quote police as saying that the couple, who met through an internet chat site, spent anywhere from four to six hours at internet cafes every day. The couple was reportedly obsessed with playing an online role-playing game called "Prius Online" where they raised a virtual daughter named "Anima."
The Yonhap News Agency says that in September the couple returned home, after spending the night playing online games at an internet cafe, to find their 3-month-old baby dead. A police autopsy reportedly determined that the baby died due to a long period of malnutrition.
