MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police say the victim of the early morning shooting has been identified as 27-year-old Lofton V. Sprouls of Madison.
The Dane County Coroner's office says a forensic autopsy shows Sprouls died of a gunshot wound.
This case is still under investigation by the City of Madison Police Department, and the Dane County Coroner's Office.
The victim is pictured to the left.
Police have not released information on the suspect.
MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police are investigating a shooting on the city's southwest side early Monday morning, that left a Madison man dead.
The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. on the 1100 block of Moorland Road.
Police were called to the scene for a report of shots fired and discovered the body of a 27-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Preliminary investigation suggests this was not a random crime and police do not believe the public is at risk.
Authorities are still searching for the suspect and are asking anyone with information to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014 or text the keyword DANE along with a message of up to 160 characters, to CRIMES (274637).

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on the 1100 block of Moorland Road, just south of the Beltline.
One person was injured in the shooting and taken to a local hospital.
