WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- The Transportation Department says U.S. highway deaths are at their lowest since 1954.
In 2009 traffic deaths declined nearly 9 percent to under 34,000.
Safety experts say the decline is due to the increased use of seat belts, less driving under intoxication, and more enforcement.
