MADISON (WKOW) -- A Wednesday evening fire caused $10,000 in damage to two businesses on Atwood Avenue.
Fire crews were called to a fire at Cafe Zoma just after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, crews found a small fire in a bathroom ceiling. Crews were able to put the fire out quickly. The bathroom where the fire was discovered is between Cafe Zoma and Absolutely Art. Before crews arrived, an employee from Absolutely Art used a fire extinguisher to try to put the fire out.
Smoke damage and residue from the fire extinguisher caused roughly $10,000 in damages. The Madison Fire Department says the early call to 911 and the use of a fire extinguisher helped prevent major damage to the businesses.
Madison fire investigators believe a mechanical problem in the bathroom ceiling fan caused the fire. No one was hurt.
