MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin farmers continue to chip away at California's lead in total milk production, while the coastal state struggles.
Last month, Wisconsin produced 2 billion pounds of milk, a 6 percent increase from the previous February, for a total of about 100 million pounds more.
California retained a firm hold on the nation's top spot, producing 3 billion pounds of milk in February, down 2 percent compared with February 2009.
California and Wisconsin account for one-third of the U.S. milk production.
