Researcher uses Last Supper to prove food portions on the rise
UNDATED (WKOW) -- Many health officials have raised concerns over the growing size of food portions. Now one researcher is using art to prove that fact.
Cornell University's Brian Wansink studied 52 paintings dating back as far as 1,000 years ago that depict the Last Supper.
Wansink found that over that time period, the size of the main dish Jesus Christ is sharing with his disciples grew 69 percent, with the size of plate up 66 percent and the bread portions 23 percent larger.
The study, released Tuesday, will be published in the April issue of the International Journal of Obesity.
