Jefferson Awards for Public Service - WKOW 27: Madison, WI Breaking News, Weather and Sports

Jefferson Awards for Public Service

MADISON (WKOW)-- WKOW honored Tuesday night local people who are giving back to their community.

It's called the Jefferson Awards.  It's considered the Nobel peace prize for volunteering.

The national awards began more than 30 years ago.  WKOW brought the Jefferson Awards to Madison last July.

We recognize a local volunteer each month and presented the last year's recipients with the Jefferson medallion tonight.

All of these people are doing amazing things in our communities, from restorative justice, to offering teens a safe ride home, to feeding the hungry.
