MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison lawmakers says insurance companies should pay up to help smokers quit.
Democratic state representative Spencer Black says smoking costs the country billions of dollars in health care costs every year, but many insurance plans don't pay for drugs and treatment that can help people kick the habit.
Black hopes legislation he introduced Monday would change that. "In some cases insurance companies refuse to pay for these costs and they would have to pay for these costs as they do pay for other medical treatments. This could save us a lot of money."
Black says he hopes to get a hearing on the bill in the next few weeks and a vote in the next legislative session.
