MADISON (WKOW)-- A Madison woman will represent our area in Washington D.C. this summer.
WKOW honored 11 local people last week who are giving back to their community. It's called the Jefferson Awards. It's considered the Nobel Peace prize for volunteering.
Jackie Millar is in the running for the national Jefferson Award after being recognized locally by WKOW.
The national board will select five people from across the country to receive the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for outstanding public service.
Millar survived being shot in the head by two teen boys in 1995.
For 13 years, Millar has spoken to thousands of people about love, choices and forgiveness.
She forgave the teen boys who shot her. The national ceremony is in June.
