Christine Monteith did just that and never cut the cord. She decided by choice to have a lotus birth. In a lotus birth the cord is left uncut and placenta stays with the baby until it naturally falls offs. That period lasts for three to four days.
Some parents decide to have a lotus birth as a spiritual and emotional connection to the baby.
The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has not taken a stance on the issue.
