Construction near Rib Mountain State Park concerns residents
WAUSAU (WKOW) -- A construction project near Rib Mountain State Park has some Wausau resident up in arms.
Construction crews had to cut down hundreds of trees to make room for the renovation.
Crews are widening the road, installing new water systems, and replacing a visitor center.
Opponents of the work say it's destroying the natural beauty of the park.
"Absolute disbelief," said Barbara Bufton, a resident near Rib Mountain Park, "One of the things that we think attracts visitors to the park and brings money into the local economy is our beautiful state park. Lovely winding, country roads. It's all gone. It's shear devastation."
DNR official hope the upgrades will attract more tourists.
The project is expected to be finished in early September.
