WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- ATM skimming - where criminals steal your information without you even knowing it - brings in a billion dollars a year for the bad guys.
Skimmers simply place a large electronic unit over the regular card slot at an ATM to capture the card numbers, then use a hidden camera to swipe the corresponding pins.
Then, when you least expect it, they'll use the information to start spending. This means even if your card is in your wallet, strangers could be using it to drain your account.
ABC News sat down with a security expert to learn exactly this works and what you can do to protect yourself; click on the camera icon to check out the report.
