Catholic Church may discipline priests outside of church
MADISON (WKOW) -- Easter is the holiest of days for Catholics around the world. This year, some say Easter is overshadowed by ongoing charges of sexual abuse by priests.
On Friday, the Pope's personal preacher compared allegations of abuse to persecution of the Jews. The Catholic Church quickly distanced itself from those comments.
"A comparison between the criticisms to the Catholic Church for the scandals of pedophilia and the anti-Semitism is absolutely not the line of the Vatican and of the Catholic Church," said a spokesman.
In newly released documents, the current Pope is believed to have waited years to remove one priest accused of abuse.
The Church now says it may go outside the church to discipline abusers in the future.
