NEW YORK (WKOW) -- An AP source says US Airways and United Airlines are discussing a possible merger, a deal that would create the nation's second-largest airline.
Both airlines' CEOs have expressed their willingness to discuss a merger, but on Wednesday, spokespeople for the airlines would not comment on the rumors.
Experts say a merger would create a difficult task for those in charge of integrating the airlines' various unions. The AP source says US Airways and United have discussed plans specifically aimed at dealing with that issue.
