Tax preparer and loan officer indicted for fraudulent loans
MADISON (WKOW) -- A federal grand jury indicted a tax preparer and a loan officer with allegedly securing more than $8 million in fraudulent loans.
A statement from federal prosecutors says the indictment accuses 44-year-old tax preparer Gail Mendez of Sun Prairie of working with 42-year-old Amy Strait, a loan officer at Park Bank in Madison. Prosecutors say they secured about 50 home loans with false tax returns and obstructed an Internal Revenue Service investigation.
Mendez's attorney didn't immediately return a message.
Online court records didn't list Strait's case or an attorney late Thursday afternoon.
Mendez was indicted in October for allegedly defrauding a bank out of millions in loans.
