UPDATE: Man killed by train identified

UPDATE (WKOW) --- Dodge County Authorities say the man killed in the train accident Saturday is 45-year-old Robert Koepsel of Jackson, Wisconsin.

The train conductor saw Mr. Koepsel walking outside the actual track, but was too close and was struck by the train.


UPDATE (WKOW) -- Dodge County authorities say a man has died after he was hit by a 78 car freight train.

Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls says a 35-year-old Washington County man, and a friend, were walking along the tracks when they heard a train coming. He says they tried to outrun it. The friend jumped off a steep embankment and landed unhurt in a marsh, but the victim was struck and killed.

The train was operated by Canadian National Railroad. Railroad spokeswoman Julie Senecal says the death is a tragic reminder that it's not only illegal but dangerous to trespass on railway property.


UPDATE (WKOW) -- The incident happened Saturday about 1:30 p.m. in the Theresa Marsh. Authorities say the man was hit by a Canadian National Railroad freight train with 78 cars.

No information about the man's identity has been released.

A message left with Canadian National on Saturday was not immediately returned Saturday evening by the Associated Press.

Theresa Marsh is a nearly 6,000-acre wildlife preserve that straddles the Dodge and Washington counties.


TOWN OF THERESA (WKOW) --  We've just learned a man in Dodge county was killed after being hit by a train.

In happened earlier this afternoon in the Town of Theresa.

Police say the man was walking on the tracks when he was hit by a Canadian National Railroad freight train.

The victim's name is not being released right now.
