MIAMI (WKOW) -- Ten years ago Wednesday, federal agents raided the home of a Cuban-American family in Miami to retrieve Elian Gonzalez.
The 6-year-old Cuban boy was staying with his relatives in Little Havana after he was found floating in an inner tube off the coast of Florida. His mother drowned trying to reach America.
The international tug-of-war between his Cuban father and the U.S. lasted five months until the raid on April 22, 2000.
Thousands of Cuban-Americans poured into the streets in protest of his seizure.
