WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- The Pentagon says it just knows the head of the Pakistani Taliban is not running things anymore.
U.S. and Pakistan intelligence had reported that the Taliban chief died in a CIA drone missile attack in January. Now Pakistani intelligence officials say it appears he was wounded, but survived the attack. The Taliban had always claimed he was still alive.
Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell says he had seen no evidence that the militant commander is operational today or exerting authority over the Pakistani Taliban as he once did.
