MT. HOREB (WKOW) -- Public health officials are trying to locate a dog that bit a woman over the weekend.

According to Public Health - Madison & Dane County, the dog bit the woman while she was walking on the Military Ridge Trail in Mt. Horeb Saturday night.

Officials say the animal is a large dog, possibly a German Shepherd or German Shepard-type mix.  It had a coat of varying shades of brown.  It was wearing a collar with tags, but the woman wasn't able to get any information from it.

If the animal isn't located, officials say the woman may be required to receive a series of rabies prevention injections.

Anyone with information on the dog's whereabouts is asked to call the Police and Fire dispatcher at 255-2345 and ask for the animal services officer.
