JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- By a joint resolution approved October 1, 1962, the United States Congress authorized and requested President John F. Kennedy to designate May 15th of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day" and the week in which it falls is "Police Week."

The Rock County Sheriff's Office is hosting the 16th Annual Rock County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Blackhawk Technical College, Central Campus on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.

The ceremony is open to the public and will honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty from Wisconsin and its neighboring states.

Honor Guards from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, Beloit Police Department, and Janesville Police Department, are scheduled to participate in the ceremony. The keynote speaker for the event is the Honorable Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The public is encouraged to attend and refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
