MADISON (WKOW) -- Local drug rehabilitation centers are trying to intervene and prevent drug abuse in Dane County. Their target audience: teenagers.
The ''Just 4 Teens'' conference in Middleton on Tuesday taught high school students from across Wisconsin about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
Many teens at the conference are currently struggling with addiction themselves and they say it helps to meet other people their age who are going through the same problem.
"I thought I didn't have a problem, and looking at people now that think they don't have a problem, it's really hard, because they're going through so much and I know exactly what they're going through. They don't want to admit they have a problem because they're so deep in a hole that they can't come out of," said Ashley Ogden, a senior at Project Change in Waukesha, a high school for recovering drug and alcohol addicts.
Horizon High School in Madison also helps teens overcome their addictions. Teachers there encourage people concerned about themselves or their child to call them at (608) 442-0935.
