MADISON (WKOW) -- Squatters entering a foreclosed Madison home will now face arrest if they enter.
A Madison home on Turbot Drive now has "no trespassing" signs on the doors: warning violators to stay off the property.
Monday, the home was a completely different scene.
A local group Operation Welcome Home teamed up with a national movement called Take Back the Land, illegally entering a foreclosed home to prepare it to move a family in. They want the bank to give the home to families for free.
27 News talked with police about how they're working to combat this new movement.
Police say they can't do anything about that trespassing until they've made contact with the owner, in this case, bank representatives.
Madison South District Police Captain Joe Balles says he's hoping for an actual database for citizens to know where these homes are. He says it's also up to the community to stay vigilant and be aware of vacant homes in their neighborhood.
